They came first for the Communists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.
Then they came for me
and by that time no one was left to speak up.
"First they came…" is a famous statement attributed to Pastor Martin Niemoller.
I am starting this as my first step in speaking up. Like many others, I am seeing our freedoms being rapidly eroded away. Every day I watch the news or read the paper, I hear or read a new erosion of our freedom. this did not start recently but the speed of the erosion is beginning to make one's head spin.
The above statement is extremely important and is a lesson that should not be forgotten.
